Serial entrepreneur James Caan has launched his first venture in Ireland by backing a Belfast-based recruitment company in a move he says will showcase the hotbed of talent available in the local market.

Hayward Hawk, a specialist technology recruitment firm, was established this year by Richard Waterson and Stephen McDowell.

The two consultants boast an impressive 18 years’ experience between them, across the Belfast and London markets. The pair joined forces with James Caan, the former star of BBC TV show Dragons’ Den, who has joined the firm as chairman, pledging his support to speed up expansion.

Mr Caan has already invested a six-figure sum in the business and with his backing Hayward Hawk have accelerated growth plans, opening offices in Dublin and London while also creating a number of jobs within Belfast for experienced consultants and graduates.

He said: “It’s people who breathe life into business, not products or services. Hayward Hawk understand this, which is how they’ve managed to grow so rapidly and why I’m so pleased to support this passionate, talented team. I’m looking forward to working with Hayward Hawk, enhancing their brand as specialists in the market but more importantly, enhancing employment opportunities in Belfast.”

Who said businessmen can’t do selfies?

The founders are passionate about the industry, and thrilled by the opportunity to utilise the priceless knowledge Mr Caan has built over the years. Their aim is to create a business where staff can be true leaders, while earning market leading salaries in the process.

Mr McDowell commented: “At Hayward Hawk, we know that Belfast has been crying out for a new, innovative and dynamic technology recruitment firm. We’re here to provide that and we’re passionate about people, so we want our consultants to achieve success, be specialists, and enjoy the rewards that will bring.”

Associate Director, Anthony Stuart, an experienced contract recruiter, said: “When I was initially approached by Richard and Stephen, with an opportunity to come on board to a forward thinking recruitment startup, I was very excited. With James Caan, one of the top names in recruitment, lending his support and expert mentorship, it was something I just had to be a part of.

“With the support of James Caan and the investment team, Recruitment Entrepreneur, the business aims to grow by more than 30 consultants by 2018, creating new jobs in Belfast city centre, while also firmly establishing themselves as leaders in both the local and international markets.
