Tales of the Cocktail, the world’s premier non-profit cocktail festival, has announced home-grown lads Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry as the Ambassadors for Tales of the Cocktail 2016.
You may remember Muldoon and McGarry as the brains behind the World’s Best Bar, The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog.
“Jack and I are extremely proud to be Ambassadors of 2016 Tales of the Cocktail,” said Sean Muldoon, Co-founder and operating partner of The Dead Rabbit.
“Tales of the Cocktail has been an integral part of our success from the get-go. From winning World’s Best Cocktail Bar for our work at The Merchant Hotel to World’s Best Bar for The Dead Rabbit, Tales was there for us every step of the way and helped us make our American Dream come true.”
Belfast-natives Jack McGarry and Sean Muldoon worked together at The Merchant Hotel Belfast, before famously relocating to New York to establish the award-winning and critically acclaimed Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog.
In 2008, Muldoon and McGarry called for attention when The Merchant was nominated for three of the most esteemed awards: Best Classic Cocktail Bar, Best Drinks Selection and World’s Best Cocktail Bar. Though they didn’t pack a Spirited Award in their suitcase that year, they returned in 2009 to accept World’s Best Cocktail Menu, World’s Best Drink Selection and World’s Best Hotel Bar and World’s Best Cocktail Bar in 2010 for the Cocktail Bar at the Merchant Hotel.
With the support and encouragement of the industry, Muldoon and McGarry moved to the US to open an Irish-American tavern in New York City. Months after opening, The Dead Rabbit was recognized as the World’s Best New Bar and for their refined menu design with World’s Best Cocktail Menu at the 2013 Spirited Awards. Jack McGarry was also honoured that year as 2013 Best International Bartender of the Year. That following year, The Dead Rabbit Duo took home the Awards for Best American Cocktail Bar and World’s Best Drinks Selection.
Last year, The Dead Rabbit bar team landed in New Orleans with hopes to take home Best American Bar Team, World’s Best Cocktail Menu for the second year, as well as the most coveted Award, World’s Best Cocktail Bar. That Saturday night, Muldoon, McGarry and their Bar Team’s dream became a reality, when they took home the Riedel Crystal Spirited Awards for World’s Best Cocktail Bar and World’s Best Cocktail Menu for the second year.
“I’m thrilled to bits to be named a 2016 Tales of the Cocktail Ambassador, along with Sean. It is truly an honour,” said Jack McGarry, Co-Founder and operating partner of The Dead Rabbit.
“We are humbled by the generous accolades we received from Tales over the years and are grateful to Ann Tuennerman and her ace team. Without this amazing festival, we would not be where we are today, both literally and figuratively.”
Tales of the Cocktail festival takes place this July in New Orleans.
