2. The American Bar
Expected to open at the start of October – Website
The guys behind popular Belfast bar the Sunflower sent social media alight recently by announcing they were opening a new bar in Belfast.
Located in Dock Street – which is better known as ‘Sailortown’ – The American Bar boasts an amazing history.
Indeed it’s been so named since 1840 when a woman called Ellinor Charters ran the American Hotel at Princes Dock, a cul-de-sac which connects with Dock Street.
Richard McCallion, who is set to Manage the American Bar, told us: “Similarly to the Sunflower, there will be a lot of emphasis on music. But of course, whilst the Sunflower is famous for its Trad sessions and live music throughout the week, The American Bar will concentrate more on American themed music such as Bluegrass.
“But this isn’t going to be a ‘stars and stripes’ themed American bar, we’re using the term ‘American’ loosely. So there’ll be lots of exciting influences from Argentina to Alaska.”
3. La Taquería
Opening Culture Night (September 16) – Website
This amazing new pop-up restaurant will arrive in Belfast in September and it promises to recreate the authentic flavours of Mexico.
La Taquería, which translates as taco shop, will be run by Adam Lynas from Bangor along with his Mexican girlfriend Elizabeth Vignolle. The pair met when Adam was living in Canada and it led to several trips to Mexico during which time Adam tried his first authentic taco which he described as “an epiphany”.
The move will see Adam, who has worked in Roscoff and Shu, go into partnership with Andy Rea and Stevie Haller from Mourne Seafood and Home.
The restaurant will also have its own drinks menu dedicated to the most Mexican of cocktails – The Margarita!
Expected to open mid October – Website
It has been revealed that the popular chain will open in Victoria Square in the city centre in mid October.
The new restaurant is set to create 35 new jobs for the city. The chain currently does not have any restaurants in Northern Ireland, but is hugely popular across the UK Ireland with 140 restaurants in total.
Lovers of authentic Italian food will be delighted with the extensive Italian menu, which ranges from Sharing Starters such as Arancini – hand rolled risotto balls with mozzarella, peas & a breadcrumb coating. Served with a chunky tomato pepperonata dip
According to the Victoria Square website, there will now be something of an ‘Italian Quarter’ in the shopping area – as it’s set to open beside Pizza Express and Prezzo.
