Belfast’s Bridges Urban Sports Park – under the M3 flyover – is the backdrop for a vibrant new offering from Prime Cut Productions.
The Secret City will premiere in the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival on May 9.
The performers of this unique collaboration come from a variety of Belfast Community Organisations including Belfast Interfact Project, Carrick Hill Community, East Belfast Initiative, East Belfast Mission, Glen Parent and Youth Club, Hosford House, Include Youth, Inner East Youth, Mountcollyer Youth Club, Springboard Opportunities, Rathcoole Youth Club, New Lodge Arts, Rathbone and VOYPIC.
This is their story, on their terms, in their city space.
Project director Matt Faris explains: “It has been a fantastic journey, working with so many amazing young people from across Belfast. they have shown an incredible honesty and integrity throughout the work, an amazing energy and passion for their communities and the city that they live in.
“What each of the participants has brought to the project is important and has to be heard, which is why we are excited to be sharing this in The Secret City.”
The Secret City is Prime Cut Production’s latest community engagement project and the culmination of The Stories of Us, -a nine-month multi-arts collaboration with over 200 young people from across Belfast.
It also reunites the creative talents of Prime Cut’s outreach manager Matt Faris and the company’s artistic sssociates; multi-award winning director Louise Lowe and Irish Times theatre award-winner Ciaran Bagnall, the team responsible for Prime Cut’s Right Here, Right Now and The Bathes.
The Secret City will be performed at Bridges Urban Sports Park on Saturday, May 9 at 5pm, 7pm and 9pm. Doors open 10 minutes before the performance.
