With the launch of Belsonic taking place in the Limelight 2 this evening (Thursday), here’s a few predictions as to potential headliners for the festival at Custom House Square.
Their reunion is marked by a raft of summer headline dates in the UK and Europe. The smart money is on them coming to Belfast this summer.
They’ve announced their first shows since 2011 with a series of summer festivals across Europe, could Belsonic be among them?
Wishful thinking maybe, but Sheeran hasn’t any plans for shows after his two sell out gigs in Croke Park in July.
Like Sheeran, it would be a major coup for Belsonic to secure the services of Smith, especially given that he’s already committed to T In The Park. If he doesn’t play in Custom House Square, there’s a strong chance he could be announced for Day 2 of Tennent’s Vital.
Given that they played their first Belfast gig in 22 years in the Odyssey in 2010, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the heavy metal legends, who play Reading Festival at the end of August could also play outdoors in Belfast this summer. If Belsonic don’t get them, I have a feeling Vital might.
They’ve a new album out in May so expect them to be here, there and everywhere in June, July and August.
Their first studio album in 12 years is released in April, so expect them to take it out on the road this summer. Although the Gallagher brothers seem to have reconciled, it would be a bit much to hope that Oasis could join them as joint headliners.
His mate Trent Reznor played at Belsonic two years ago with Nine Inch Nails so don’t rule out an appearance from the man who used to be as controversial as Kanye West.
In terms of support I reckon any of these lot are real possibilities to appear at Belsonic this summer – Hozier, Royal Blood, Bastille, The 1975, Paloma Faith, George Ezra, The Vaccines and Deadmau5.
