Ed Sheeran is making a cameo appearance in Home And Away.
The singer enjoyed the Australian sunshine on the Palm Beach set of the Channel 5 soap as he filmed a scene with Emily Symons, who plays much-loved character Marilyn Chambers.
He will appear as himself in the soap, in an episode to air later this year, but details of the storyline that brings him to Summer Bay are being kept under wraps.
The 24-year-old British singer told Australia’s News.com: “It’s an Australian institution. It’s always on in my local chip shop.
“I got asked to do it and it sounded like it could be fun. I did Shortland Street in New Zealand as well and I’m sure if Emmerdale or EastEnders ever ask me in England I would do that as well.
“I have got to a point where I really, really don’t care what people think so I’m doing stuff because I enjoy it now rather than because it might be cool. I am just in it for fun.”
Sheeran does have a previous connection to the show, as he hired actress Isabel Lucas – who played Tasha Andrews in Home And Away for three years until 2006 – to play Cupid in the music video for his single Give Me Love.
The Thinking Out Loud star is the only international celebrity to appear on Home And Away and the biggest musician since Aussie pop star John Farnham cameoed on the soap in the late 1980s.
Rival Aussie soap Neighbours has had a number of pop stars cameo on the show over the years, including Lily Allen, The Pet Shop Boys, Spice Girl Emma Bunton and Paula Abdul.
Recently Ed released his song Bloodstream with Rudimental. And recently Rudimental was confirmed as one of the headline acts for this years Belsonic Festival in August.
