This Saturday is World Poetry Day and to celebrate a Northern Ireland company will launch their fourth annual poetry competition.
Poets from across the country are being invited to “attend the launch event and recite their work, listen and appreciate the talents of others and enjoy hearing recitals from previous winners of the competition”.
Mark Cooper is the current holder of the award which he won with his poem First Catch – about an experience of going fishing with his father.
Beverley Brown from organisers FSNI said: “Our national poetry competition allows us to give a voice to people who want to honour those they care about in a positive outlet and express their grief during what can be a very difficult time.
“The competition has enabled us to meet so many wonderful people with a passion for poetry and to listen to them recite their work is truly touching.
The competition will be launched with a recital happening at James Brown and Sons on Belfast’s Newtownards Road from 2pm until 4pm on Saturday March 21 and refreshments will be provided on arrival.
To reserve a place or places at the recital, call Joanne Barrie on 028 9073 9661 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
