The Belfast Photo Festival is back.
And it’s third programme so far is set to be the biggest yet.
With a whole host of events planned the festival which runs from June 4-30 covers everything from traditional photography to a wide variety of visual arts including from sculpture and film to painting and performance.
Here’s a snapshot of 10 highlights of the festival:
1. DeLorean Print Project by Cyril Hatt
June 6-10, Belfast City Hall Lawn
Blending sculpture and photography, the official unveiling of the Belfast Photo Festival’s full scale DeLorean DMC-12 sculpture is one not to be missed.
2. Iris Colour Photo Park
June 6-30, Satu Writer’s Square
The official opening night of the Iris Colour Photo Park where eleven cargo containers have been repurposed into novel art galleries! There’s live entertainment too.
3. New Work by Victor Sloan
June 4-27, Belfast Print Workshop
Artist in residence, Victor Sloan, the Northern Irish photographer recognised internationally for his work documenting the Troubles, tackles the Syrian conflict in his new series of works currently being developed with the Belfast Print Workshop
4. To Camera
June 4 to July 25, Golden Thread Gallery
Featuring works by artists such as Amanda Coogan, Lorraine Burrell, Tom Lovelace, Ai Wei Wei and Tony Hill, To Camera focuses on photography’s relationship with performance.
5. Stage of Mind by JeeYoung Lee
June 4 to July 26, Naughton Gallery at Queen’s University Belfast
The Korean artists first solo exhibition in the UK and Ireland presented by the Naughton Gallery. The exhibition will showcase a selection of her photographic work and a reproduction of one of her eye-catching installations.
6. RPS 157th International Print Exhibition
June 7-16, The Andrews Gallery, Titanic Belfast
The Royal Photographic Society – the longest running exhibition of its kind – makes it’s first ever trip to the island of Ireland with the 157th International Print Exhibition. Selected from over 6,600 entries, prints showcasing 100 artists and representing 23 countries will be on display at Titanic Belfast
7. Artist Talk: Mentalgassi
June 5, Crescent Arts Centre
Enter Mentalgassi, a trio of friends who decided to combine their passion for graffiti with their love of photographic portraiture. Keep your eye out for Mentalgassi street art projects in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.
8. Somewhere To Disappear, Screening and Q&A with Alec Soth
June 19, QFT
Somewhere To Disappear, directed by Laure Flammarion and Arnaud Uyttenhove, is a documentary that follows Soth on a journey of photographic discovery around the United States during his project, Broken Manual.
9. The Hudson Party
June 5, The Hudson Bar
The biggest part of the Belfast Photo Festival where we will be celebrating with the new graduate of Belfast School of Art and all festival goers. See you there!
10. Urban Photo Walk
June 25 and 26, PLACE, 7-9 Lower Garfield Street
For all ages and experiences. With some of Belfast’s best known heritage buildings as a backdrop, take a stroll through central Belfast and create stunning architectural images. Participants are invited to bring digital cameras, disposable cameras or camera phones.
