The most popular names for baby boys and girls in Northern Ireland in 2015 have been revealed.
James overtook Jack to top the boys’ list for the first time, while Emily remained the favourite for girls for a third year.
New entries into the respective top tens included Aoife, Ava, Jake and Matthew.
According to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, there were 300 babies named James in 2015.
Jack, which had held the lead from 2003 to 2014, fell to second on 261, followed by Noah on 225.
Charlie and Daniel rounded out the top five.
For girls, 223 babies were called Emily in 2015, while 197 were called Ella, 192 for Grace, 179 Sophies and 153 Olivias.
Compared with boys, a greater number of girls’ names have held the top spot since the reporting of first names began in 1997.
Emily has now held the top position on three occasions.
The research agency added that blockbuster movies, current celebrities and memorable places continue to appear to be influencing factors for some parents when choosing names
