WORDS by FAITH-NICOLE THOMPSON
The excitement is building ahead of the production of CATS at The SSE Arena, Belfast. Rehearsals are getting close – less than two weeks! Who’s excited?
Excited is an understatement of how I’m feeling right now. I was brought up on the stage, my first pantomime at just four years of age for a small, local theatre group. But I still get nervous like it’s my first time. I’m incredibly nervous this time, to be part of such a big production directed by Peter Corry – I can hardly contain myself!
CATS has been on Broadway, the West End, travelled the whole world and now it is in our city of Belfast and being played by the youth of Northern Ireland.
I personally think it is good for young people to get involved in drama as it really builds your confidence and the talent in this small country is unreal.
Making friends is a big part of why young people should get involved in productions like this one. It doesn’t always have to be in a performing capacity as there are lots of different roles that you can be a part of. Over the years I have made friends with some amazing people. You spend hours upon hours with them throughout the production and after the shows you stay friends.
Friends that dance and sing together, stay together!
They say ‘your teen years are your best years’ so make the most of it become part of a production or drama school. It changes your life and gives you a great since of achievement.
I’m so excited to see what my costume will be like for Cats. You always know when you are getting fitted for your costume that the production is getting closer, and the excitement is unbearable.
It is going to be AMAZING and we’re going to have the time of our lives!
Come see us on August 6 at The SSE Arena, Belfast. I promise it will be a show not to be missed.
