One of Belfast’s hidden food gems is about to come out of hiding.
The Cuban Sandwich Factory will be opening a new sit-in premises at Queen’s Arcade.
Owner Carlos Arguelles told belfastvibe he hoped the new premises would be open by the weekend of December 9-10.
Because the new cafe premises at the corner of Queen’s Arcade, facing out towards Fountain Street, affords the business more space, Carlos plans to expand the menu.
He said: “We’ll be putting on Cuban style coffee as well as soup, bread, rice and salad – all Cuban inspired. It means our customers can sit in to enjoy our food but we’ll also be able to provide customers with lunch-boxes to take away.”
And now for the news we’ve all been waiting for…
“Because we’ve more room we’re bringing back the Cuban Reuben,” said Carlos.
This almighty sandwich containing hot pressed salted beef, caramelised onion, gherkins and Irish Cheddar takes two weeks to prepare so the meat is grinded, flavoured, refrigerated and cooked to perfection. Trust us, it’s worth the wait.
Carlos added: “We’ll have bench and bar stools and an open plan kitchen so people can see the whole process. We’ll have 50’s Cuban decor and music so people will walk in and say, “This is Cuba!”
The Cuban Sandwich Factory started trading from St George’s Market in 2012 and opened up its first full time trading post at the back of Lecky’s Newsagents in Church Lane back in the summer.
The good news for regulars is they’ll be keeping on their pitch at St George’s as well as their place in Lecky’s newsagents.
