Hitting the West Coast Cooler Fashion Week catwalk this Autumn/ Winter 15 is fashionable new brand Cocoon Luxury Wear.
Founded by PR guru turned fashion designer, Sara Hall, who is from Newry, this brand has placed a whole new view on the heritage trend, using timeless Harris Tweed to create classic capes.
Talking of her design inspiration Sara explains, “We source Harris Tweed fabrics directly from Scotland as well as gathering up offcuts from Parisian and Milanese design houses, and turn these designer leftovers into affordable fashion statements for your wardrobe.”
Having sported a vintage Harris Tweed jacket throughout her (fashionable) time at Ulster University, as well as including the heritage fabric in her farmer chic wedding in 2013, it was no surprise to husband David, when she decided to launch her own Tweed clothing company.
Following the birth of their daughter Arianna in 2012, Sara slowed down her busy career in PR and embraced motherhood, and it was during this time that she discovered her passion for her real vocation.
She recalls, “When I was a stay-at-home mum I had met a friend for coffee one day and on discussion of our careers my friend asked me what I really would like to do with my life? It was really out of the blue and it just came to me, but I said I’d love to make capes for kids.”
“I’d bought a gorgeous and practical little cape for Arianna but she’d grown out of it, so I thought I’d go out on a whim and design her one myself. I sourced some stunning material and put together a small collection of capes to fit one to five years olds, and with that launched Cocoon Baby Wear in February this year. Within two weeks I had sold out of the capes, and this was with advertising solely on Facebook, so I knew I was onto a good thing. Then all the mummies wanted a cape for themselves, so they could be as stylish as their little ones. ”
Having a new-found confidence behind her, Sara recently launched Cocoon Luxury Wear with a fabulous range of ladies’ capes, available in five stunning Harris Tweed fabrics.
The tweed itself is 100% pure virgin wool, dyed, spun and finished in the outer Hebrides and woven by hand by the islanders at their own homes on the islands of Lewis, Harris, Ust and Barra.
Fully lined and with big slouchy hoods and pockets they truly are a winter must-have – and rumour has it Hacking jackets and coats are next on the agenda for this exciting up-and-coming brand.
Highly tipped for big things, Sara’s Cocoon Luxury Wear will showcase its collection as part of Belfast Fashion Week on Thursday October 15 at BFW HQ, Bruce St, Belfast.
