Northern Ireland’s largest fashion event, West Coast Cooler Fashion Week returned for its 21st season last month.
It saw nightly catwalk shows, a ‘Fifty over Fifty’ show and the return of the Fashion Awards. Plus daytime events including master classes, demos and fashion lunches – meaning there was truly no better place to get your fashion fix this Spring.
If you missed the shows, then worry not, as Belfast Fashion Week’s Cathy Martin advises fashionistas with these simple top tips hot off the runway.
1. Banish last of winter blues with bright hues
“The secret to banishing the last of your winter woes is to splash your winter wardrobe with fresh spring colours.
“Whether you favour bright blues, ravishing reds or powerful purples, the secret is to find a shade you’ll shine in. As we see a return of colour blocking and popping, it’s time to think sherbet shades using contrasting fabrics and colours to create a bold and bashful look.”
2. Stand out from the (monochrome) crowd
“Mix and match punchy colours, creating clear definition between each piece and you’ll be guaranteed to stand-out.
“It’s a trend that featured heavily on the Fashion Week catwalk this season and is so accessible across the board – from High Street outlets to designer boutiques, as well as some incredible pieces from our local designers.
“A jumpsuit or dress in a block colour is probably the easiest way to rock this trend, and flattering for any shape or size. Colour is a bold choice for many, but as long as you understand what suits your body shape and create a strong silhouette with structure then all that’s left is to pair with confidence.
3. Colour pop
“If creating outfits using contrasting colours isn’t quite for you, then opt for bright staple pieces or simple accessories. A seasonal sandal or colour popping handbag will add a much-needed hint of summer colour to a safer look, yet sure to keep you bang-on-trend.”
