Northern Ireland is seriously undergoing something of a fashion renaissance with its wealth of established and emerging young fashion designers.
From the fabulous fashion showcased at the Merchant’s Afternoon Fashion Teas recently, to creations showcased throughout ever popular Belfast Fashion Week events, we’ve rounded up our top 5 seriously slaying the fashion scene and firmly putting Belfast on the fashion map.
1. Una Rodden
Una Rodden is one seriously exclusive designer – you won’t find an official site amongst the numerous blog posts, style galleries and array of glowing reviews online. That’s because Una Rodden’s reputation precedes her. It helps when you have approximately 20 years experience in high-fashion womenswear design crafting perfected works of art for exclusive, trend-experimenting women.
With a shop in Belfast on Arthur St, you can visit Una and experience her famous customer service and stunning designs for yourself.
2. Shauna Fay
Award winning Fashion designer based in Spires Mall Belfast, Shauna Fay has showcased her designs throughout Belfast Fashion Week and many bridal shows and exhibitions, but has gained a cult following by keen fashionistas who love her bespoke creations.
Whilst you can buy Shauna’s gorgeous creations instore at the Spires Mall, Shauna specialises in bridal and occasionwear, and focuses on one-off commissions and designs. For more info and gorgeous pics go to Shauna Fay’s Facebook page.
3. Chloe Dougan
Chloe Dougan is a young up and coming Belfast Fashion Designer, who since qualifying in Textile Art Design with Fashion at the University of Ulster, has risen quickly up Northern Ireland’s fashion industry. Dougan was soon awarded a Residency position in the Fashion Department at Ulster University where she mentors final year students.
This young designer has a wealth of experience under her belt, having already showcased at Belfast Fashion Week for Autumn Winter 14, Spring Summer 15 and the Fabulous Fashion Teas fashion show at the five star Merchant Hotel for consecutive seasons.
Dougan’s designs are well recognised as being edgy and feminine with strong elements of leathers, suede and lace: “They’re my favourite fabrics to work with as they are so striking and make a great impact,” explained Chloe. 4. Nor Lisa
Lisa McCabe is one of NI’s leading fashion designers, having started Nor Lisa in 2011.
Lisa has since become a household name amongst the fashion conscious, who simply lust after her amazing, bespoke, hand-craft individual pieces.
With each piece focusing on high impact, high glamour, Lisa’s brand identity is based around creating unique designs, which are not only extremely flattering for the wearer, but through her use of hand printed and custom made prints, are unlike anything currently being produced at the moment. 5. Gráinne Maher
Designer Gráinne Maher is Northern Ireland’s premier couture milliner. She also creates award winning jewellery for both an impulse fashion buy, to amazing stand out pieces.
Grainne also opened her first permanent retail outlet in the Spires Mall last year, which has received outstanding success.
A regular exhibitor at London Fashion Week, the Belfast designer’s work has featured on magazine covers and in television adverts. Dame Mary Peters wore one of her designs to Buckingham Palace to receive her MBE and in 2011, Hollywood actress Selena Gomez wore one of Maher’s pendants onstage at the MTV music awards in Belfast, garnering worldwide attention.
