Social media is a major threat to marital relations according to a new survey which found that one in seven Brits have considered divorce because of their spouse’s online activities.

Of the 2,000 people questioned by family law specialists Slater and Gordon, nearly a quarter said they had at least one row a week that stems from social media use with Facebook considered the biggest culprit.

Just under half of participants admitted to secretly snooping on their partner’s Facebook account, mostly to check who they have been talking to, while 14% said they were actively looking for evidence of cheating.

“Social media, specifically pictures and posts on Facebook, are now being routinely raised in the course of divorce proceedings,” the law firm commented.
