Warming cocktails are a must at this time of year.
The freezing cold, lashing rain and shivering agony we’ve been subjected to the past couple of days is making us thoroughly miserable. And that’s just waiting for a taxi (it never came).
So tonight we’re staying indoors. With some warming cocktails of course. If you need some cheering up, these festive comforting hot drinks might just be the thing to make you merry again (depending on the quantity you drink, probably).
3 Of The Greatest Warming Cocktails To Make At Home…
1. Red Wine Hot Chocolate
Combining two of our favourite things, this warming festive drink is top of our list.
1 1/2 cup milk
1 cup red wine (I used Kendall-Jackson Cabernet Sauvignon)
1/3 cup dark chocolate chunks
Optional: Whipped cream (Recommended)
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and chocolate chips. Whisking constantly until chocolate is melted into milk and you have a thick and creamy chocolate milk. Pour in red wine and heat until everything is hot. Pour into mugs and top with copious amounts of whipped cream for the ultimate decadence.
2. Hot Cocoa Martini
In a similar vain, because we love chocolate (and can shamelessly justify it at this time of year), this Hot Cocoa Martini is perfect for snuggling up under the blankets in front of a roaring fire. We’ve even found it makes Elf even more enjoyable (and even funnier for some reason…)
1 Packet hot cocoa mix
1 Cup milk
Whipped cream vodka
Buttershots caramel liqueur
Bring the milk to a simmer in a pot and whisk in the cocoa mix until fully incorporated. Refrigerate for about 10 – 15 minutes to chill. Add 1/2 cup of the prepared cocoa to a cocktail shaker along with the vodka and caramel liqueur. Fill with ice, shake well and pour into cocktail glasses. Garnish with either whipped cream or marshmallows, or both.
3. Baileys & Amaretto Hot-Tails
The Londoner, in a seemingly determined bid to ensure our pre Christmas diet is derailed in epic fashion, has just gone and invented this seriously deliriously delicious recipe. This is our must-try.
2 mugs of milk
4tbsp Chocolate powder
Chocolate Baileys (or regular Irish Cream if you can’t find it)
Pinch of nutmeg
Candy canes (optional)
Gently heat your milk in a saucepan and add the cocoa powder.
Stir until chocolatey, add a pinch of nutmeg.
Pour in a good slug of Baileys.
Stir until hot and smooth… just like you.
Pour the steaming, glistening, aromatic river of dreams into mugs.
