Despite Kim Kardashian’s rather humorous previous protestations to the opposite, it would seem she and Kanye West have indeed decided to indeed go in ANOTHER direction for their unborn baby boy’s name.

Yes, seemingly undeterred that just recently she twice went on record to defiantly (and not ironically at all) claim, “I don’t like South West, though, because that’s like, you know, North will always, you know, be better and be more… she has a better direction.”

“Why just add another direction? North is the best. I don’t want to try to duplicate that with a lower direction, you know?”

With this in mind, we take a look back at some of the more, shall we say, memorable celebrity baby names…

 1. Pilot Inspektor (Jason Lee)

In 2005, the My Name Is Earl star told Entertainment Weekly that he named his boy after a song on the indie rock band Grandaddy’s 2000 album The Sophtware Slump.

“The opening track, ‘He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot,’ absolutely blew my mind when I first heard it. It was from this track that my wife, Beth, came up with the name Pilot for our son.”

And that, really, is as good a reason as any for a baby’s name.

2. Blue Ivy (Beyonce + Jay Z)

While some people are convinced that Blue Ivy’s name has some hidden Illuminati references, Beyonce has hinted at the meaning behind “Blue.”

Many a gossip website has also pointed out the significance of “Ivy” with the Roman numerals “IV” (4) – an important number to the couple.

3. Buddy Bear (Jamie and Jools Oliver)

Famous for their quirky baby names, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools, recently welcomed their fourth child and first son, Buddy Bear, into the world.

Little Buddy is brother to Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo and Blossom Rainbow. According to Jamie, Jools is responsible for coming up with the kids’ kooky names.

“Jools is definitely in charge of the names,” he told TV host Sharon Osbourne, adding; “we’re probably quite lucky it was a boy really, because we were out of names for girls.”

4. Apple (Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin)

Less than a year after Gwyneth and Chris wed, they welcomed their first baby together on May 14, 2004. Their baby, a girl, was born in a London hospital, weighing 9lb 11oz.

It was the year of the particularly obscure celebrity baby names, but when Chris and Gwyn named their first-born Apple, they succeeded in standing out from the (already-flamboyant) crowd.

The couple’s baby name choice raised a few eyebrows, so Gwyn spoke to Oprah Winfrey – as you do – about what inspired them to name their daughter after a fruit!

“It sounded so sweet and it conjured such a lovely picture for me, you know, apples are sweet and they’re wholesome. It’s biblical and I just thought it sounded so lovely and clean!”

5. Zuma Nesta Rock (Gwen Stefani + Gavin Rossdale)

Zuma Nesta Rock is recently seperated Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s middle child.

Their other two sons are named Kingston James McGregor and Apollo Bowie Flynn.

6. James (Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds)

Blake and Ryan welcomed their first child, a daughter, in December, and while Ryan has gushed about life as a father, the two have kept mostly quiet about their little girl, apart from confirming the name a few months later, alongside sharing a cute snap of the doting dad’s fingers entwined with his new daughter’s.

Although technically the name James is unisex, it has become quite a traditional name for boys.

However, Blake has revealed “‘It’s a family name, and I liked having a boy’s name.”
