St George’s Market, one of Belfast’s most loved and historic visitor attractions, is preparing to celebrate 120 years of trading on Friday June 3.
Coinciding with this, will also be the first day of St George’s Market’s extended trading until 3pm, which has been introduced in response to customer demand.
The popular indoor market will now be open for business every Friday from 6am until 3pm and there’ll be celebrations on June 3 from 9am – 3pm, with live entertainment and spot prizes up for grabs.
Some of our favourite food and drink spots in Belfast showcase their goods at the award winning market, including Doughzy Donuts who we recently revealed opened their first standalone store in the city centre due to popular demand.
Meanwhile, food from the likes of the popular Belfast Bap Co and Melting Pot Fudge always has a queue thanks to their delicious range of hot food and local delights.
Lord Mayor Councillor Arder Carson explained: “The extended opening hours will allow visitors even more time to soak up and enjoy all that our market has to offer:
“With live music every weekend, over 248 traders and almost one million visitors through the doors in 2015, St George’s Market really is going from strength to strength – and it’s top of everyone’s must-see lists when they visit Belfast.”
St George’s was named the UK’s Best Large Indoor Market 2014 by the National Association of British Market Authorities, beating off stiff competition from internationally renowned markets like Spitalfields, Billingsgate and Borough. It was also voted the nation’s favourite Heritage project in the 2014 National Lottery Awards.
