Belfast artist Christine Mooney has found a niche for herself in Belfast’s St George’s Market selling pop art prints of local and international stars.
Among those stylish art pieces is a portrait of Belfast’s favourite son Carl Frampton who takes on Scott Quigg in Manchester on Saturday night in a battle of the super-bantamweight world champions.
Christine and her husband Michael run Popstar Portraits and you’ll find them in St George’s Market every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Michael said: “The two of us have been painting for around 12 years and we’ve been in St George’s Market for the past five years.
“We’d been at the market for about a year when Christine started doing the Pop Art style portraits. The local stars like Carl Frampton are proving really popular. They make for a good present.”
“Other big sellers would be iconic pop stars like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and we’ve sold a few David Bowie recently,” said Michael.
As well as their Popstar Portraits business Michael and Christine also trade under ArtDuo.net where Michael specialises in Belfast landscapes and abstract work.
The artistic duo also have selected prints are available in The Wicker Man in High Street and the Yard Gallery in Holywood.
As for the subject of one of their most popular pieces of art at the moment, Michael said: “Our two boys are big fans of Frampton so they’ll have the fight on this Saturday night. We’ll all be rooting for him.”
