Wayne Rooney is enjoying plenty of glory these days after becoming England’s highest ever goalscorer.

After a pretty dull season up to now by his standards, it’s certainly just what he needed.

But recently the Man United skipper’s Twitter circa 2011-12 has been unearthed – and it makes for some pretty hilarious reading…

Yes it seems not only was he the Reds’ main man during that period – scoring an incredible 35 goals in 44 appearances for United – but he was also on incredible top form on Twitter.

Here’s our top Rooney Twitter moments, which sadly came to an end in 2012, when, clearly, his PR manager must have stepped in and changed his password. Or checked over every single Tweet before he send each one.

Because seldom, if ever, do we get to see this level of back-sass against internet trolls and haters, like when he seriously owned his hair transplant…

That time he responded to a troll, but ended up having a rather fantastically strange argument with himself – all the while managing to highlight how silly trolls are…

When he clearly had more pressing matters to discuss than United legend Paul Scholes’ retirement from football…

After Phil Neville tweeted about going for a bike ride first thing in the morning…
