Red Hot Chili Peppers will headline Tennent’s Vital at Boucher Road Playing Fields on Thursday August 25.
The last time they performed in Belfast was for the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2011.
It’s major coup for Tennent’s Vital, securing a band whose fan base spans at least three generations and straddle four or five genres of music including punk, rock, pop, metal and funk.
The Chili Peppers have been going since 1983 and two of the founding members – Anthony Kiedis and Flea – alongside long-time drummer Chad Smith – remain in the line up, while John Frusciante has been replaced by Josh Klinghoffer.
Their world tour this year will also see them play Reading and Leeds Festivals on August 26 and 27.
Last year’s Tennent’s Vital was a distinctly pop-focused affair with acts including Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding, John Newman and The Script.
Let’s hope there hasn’t been a massive misunderstanding and it’s actually the Red Hot Chilli Pipers who’ve been booked this year…
