Usually when someone announces that they’re running a marathon for charity it’s impressive enough.
Belfast restaurateur Brian McGeown has taken this feat the next level as he endeavours to run nine marathons in an astonishing nine consecutive days!
The owner of Love & Death Inc and Aether & Echo will be running from Cork to Belfast in aid of three charities close to his heart, The Children’s Heartbeat Trust, The Down ‘s Syndrome Association and mental health charity, Mind Your Mate and Yourself.
Brian said, “I will be running 249 miles, through 11 counties from Cork to Belfast, which will be 9.5 marathons in 9 days.
“The reason for taking on the challenge is that sometimes you feel helpless to people close to you, no matter how sympathetic you are of their situation, by doing a crazy run hopefully I can raise some money and more importantly awareness of what these three amazing local charities do on a daily basis. Last year I ran from Belfast to Dublin, so I thought I would try something harder this time round.”
The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) helps people with Down’s syndrome and their families by providing expert advice, training, assessments, support and a helpline while The Children’s Heartbeat Trust delivers emotional and practical support to parents and families of children with heart disease in Northern Ireland.
Brian’s final charity, Mind Your Mate and Yourself, is an organisation focused on helping people raise self esteem, self awareness and self care which ultimately results in individuals achieving a great sense and understanding of self respect.
Brian’s challenge begins on August 12 and he will cross the finish line in Belfast on August 20.
