Music streaming site Tidal was trending on Twitter again recently, but this time it wasn’t quite the deluge of derision as when Jay Z (real name Shawn Carter) debuted the service last month.

Mr Carter, who is usually relatively reticent on social media, posted a wave of 16 tweets defending his new project and pleading with fans to “give us a chance to grow & get better”.

The rapper revealed he’s now got 770,000 subscribers on board and compared the company to rivals Apple, Spotify and YouTube.

“Tidal is doing just fine,” he insisted, leaving us wondering whether all those tweets were really necessary.
