DinaDina and The Pocket are planning their latest takeover.
Based in the heart of the Queen’s Quarter, The Pocket serves up authentic 3FE coffee alongside a delicious compact menu which varies from month to month.
As well as serving up breakfast and lunch specials with delicious bread from Zac’s Bakehouse delivered fresh each morning, it offers sweet treats from popular Dan Larkin’s Man Made.
It also boasts an amazing Pocket Picnic – filled with a coffee of your choice, Man Made cake and Zac’s Bakehouse Sourdough sandwich – all for £9! Ideal for bringing to nearby Botanic Gardens or the lawn in front of Queen’s when you need a chilled out lunch.
Passionate about coffee, Richard Evans, who originally hails from South Africa, caught the ‘Cafe Culture’ bug after helping out his good friends who run Established. He quickly realised he wished to pursue his passion. Just a short while later Richard, who comes from a background of working in property, was opening his budding new coffee shop in the delightful Queen’s University area.
Well-travelled Richard fell in love with Belfast after visiting and decided to stay – and 11 years later he’s still impressed: “People are so much friendlier here! When I was here for the first time people would stop me in the street to make sure I wasn’t lost. I’ve never experienced such friendliness anywhere else!
“And it’s only getting better. Belfast is improving all the time. This is a time of revolution for the city in terms of cafe culture, food and drink!”
Meanwhile, our favourite spot for authentic Italian street food in the heart of the city centre, DinaDina is quickly ensuring its place on the local foodie scene as well.
Based at 52 Upper Arthur Street, this mouth-watering Italian serves food cooked freshly each day and delivered in super fast time!
In fact, their must-have menu item is the Piandina (from which they derive their name) – and it’s truly excellent.
It’s a Northern Italian flatbread filled with a host of local delicacies including delicious hand made Italian sausage. They also do a great line in quick lunchtime bites like £1 mini pizzas and panzerotto (calzone) for £3. To top it all of the walls are adorned with some interesting artwork and original Italian movie posters.
DinaDina has never failed to impress us – earning itself a place on our top foodie lists time and time again.
On Thursday, the two worlds will collide – with epic results! The menu boasts various Piadina options as well as gorgeous options prepared using their homemade Ciabatta Bread.
And understandably, Richard – owner of The Pocket – is seriously looking forward to this exciting new takeover.
It comes after their first takeover earlier this year was a huge success.
Richard told us:”We just can’t wait for this one. After the huge success of the last DinaDina day we knew that we were onto something special and have been counting down the time until our next takeover.
“Since we sold out in record time we are doing things slightly differently for this event. We will be pre-booking food for people from the Wednesday – the only way to book is to call into the cafe with your order, name, number & time for collection the following day.
“The menu will be online as well. The day itself is Thursday, September 15 and will run from 11am to sold out.”
Alex from DinaDina added: “Get me some Piadina maaaan! The first takeover at The Pocket went so well that we decided we had to do it again because we want to feed people anywhere/anytime.
“We have extended the menu with a couple of new choices and we’ll also bring our best seller at DinaDina, the mighty Gallo aka the chicken one! We’ll bring good food and Italian passion to Queen’s again! If you don’t join the fun you’ll be missing out!”
