We all love a good sporting day out on a hot summers day and this year Northern Ireland has plenty to chose from.

This year consists of our normal historic sport events but many new and exciting days out for all the family to enjoy.

Here are Danny Massey’s top 6:

1. Tall Ships Races
July 2-5
Belfast’s waters will host over fifty tall ships in an epic three day parade. The best time to see the ships will be on Sunday July 5 as they will be en masse in a giant parade.

2. Milk Cup
July 26-31
This is one of the highlights in the Northern Irish sporting calendar with teams from around the world coming together to take part in a tournament hosted by Dale Farm.

3. Ulster Grand Prix
August 3-8
The Ulster Grand Prix is the most prestigious motorcycling event in Ireland and will take place in Crumlin and Nutts Corner.
The race includes some of the best talent this province has to offer and guarantees to be one of the best sporting occasions of the year.


4. The Northern Irish Open
August 6-9
For all golf lovers the European challenge heads to Galgorm resort this is a great occasion for golf fans to take a trip down to Ballymena and see all of their favourite stars up close and in action.

5. The Colour Run
August 30
This bizarre event sees thousands of people being covered in colourful paint at Belfast’s Titanic quarter before going off on and 5K run or walk throughout the city.
Last year’s event saw 6,000 people take part with many more planned for this year.

6. Mourne Mountain Marathon
September 19-20
The Mourne mountains will host a two-day endurance and navigation course.
This is the 36th anniversary of this event and can be a family day out or even a full-on competition.  Teams of two compete in elite or B classes.
