A cheeky look at some of the things you might encounter in Belfast at the weekend including singing street sweepers, taxi banter and bus adventures.
1. Singing Street Sweepers
If you’re in town shopping this weekend, look out for Belfast City Council’s singing street sweepers as they take on a few traditional Christmas songs with a twist.
Here’s them in action a couple of years ago…
Just to put the icing on the cake, while the street sweepers are singing their hearts out, it would be great to see an unsigned Indie musician driving a road sweeper down Ann Street.
2. Taxi driver banter
A weekend out in Belfast wouldn’t be the same without having to wait at least 45 minutes in the freezing cold for a lift home… which you then have to pay for.
It’s a little known fact that the £2.50 minimum charge actually covers the banter you’re guaranteed from a Belfast taxi driver.
3. US Invasion
Still on the subject of taxis, the Uber taxi app arrives in Belfast this Friday (December 11).
Uber taxis are like normal taxis except you pay more because they’re American and have a big reputation. Much the same as Five Guys.
4. On The Buses
Maybe taxis aren’t your thing and you prefer bussing it with the commoners. If so there’s a chance you’ll get your heart warmed if you happen to be on board along with Paul Doyle – officially the kindest bus driver in the world.
Although, if you are hopping on a bus, we wouldn’t recommend the Ards to Portaferry service at this current time…
There’s a fair chance it’s going to snow this weekend. This was the scene in Newtownabbey on Thursday night.
If that’s the case you can forget about points 1 through to 4 because in typical Belfast fashion if it snows everything gets cancelled.
