There’s been so much doom and gloom the past few days that we’ve decided to focus on the positives right now. And that’s Belfast’s vibrant food and drink scene.
Here’s our round-up of 5 places in Belfast you need to try as soon as you (humanly) can!
92 Stranmillis Road – Website
Formerly known as Birdcage, Loteria is the gateway to South American food in Belfast.
With a menu boasting Mix & Share meat and fish, Small Plates, Tacos and Quesadillas, as well as firm favourites including the all day breakfast, sandwiches and burgers (to name just a few!) it’s no wonder Loteria is experiencing such serious popularity.
Not only are the drinks incredible with an atmosphere unlike anywhere else, but it’s also amazing value for money.
Indeed, every Monday is Margarita Monday at Loteria, where it’s buy 1 get 1 free at £6.95. Catch a ray or two of sunshine on the terrace with some wings, tacos or nachos for the ultimate bliss!
Meanwhile, the Weekend Special runs from 3pm-11pm and includes 1 Bottle of Prosecco and stunning House Nachos for £25. Did someone say Swallurday?!
2. Havana Bank Square
56-58 Berry Street – Website
We only recently discovered Belfast’s greatest hidden gem in the form of Havana.
Tucked away in the city centre behind the recently developed Bank Square, Havana serves food sourced in support of local produce seven days and six nights a week & a fresh mix of cocktails.
We got the fish and chips – and it was absolutely mouth-wateringly good. Do yourself a favour and check them out as soon as possible!
207 Lisburn Road – Website
Ideally situated on the bustling Lisburn Road, we were blown away by the truly stunning menu and seriously mouth-watering food, complete with action-packed superhero themed décor and friendly customer service at this family-run business.
Whilst Jens are famed for their Shakes, the aptly named Hero Burgers are a befitting name for food that’s this darn good. If you haven’t tried a Hero Burger at Jenz, then you need to rectify this, immediately!

Featuring Boozy Shakes, Freak Jars, and Individual Pizzas, Cathedral Quarter’s newest bar & restaurant is a long overdue addition to our lives.
Perhaps unsurprisingly – based on these pictures – Vandal specialises in serving up drinks with a difference – just check out those Freak Jars!

5. Deane’s at Queen’s
1 College Gardens – Website
In the vibrant University Quarter of the city, Deanes at Queens Restaurant, Bar and Grill, with its glorious Terrace, takes full advantage of its enviable leafy location overlooking the superb architecture of Methodist College. It’s also adjacent to Belfast’s Botanic Gardens and the Ulster Museum.
Deanes at Queens is newly refurbished to include a Bar area which benefits from a Full Bar Licence and offers Bar Food throughout the day.
Restaurant Head Chef Chris Fearon, of Great British Menu fame, consistently serves up dishes packed with the flavour of great local produce. The newly installed Mibrasa Charcoal Grill adds a delicious dimension to the wide ranging Restaurant Menu, whilst Specials and course deals mean you can afford a little bit of luxury!
