There’s one thing we rarely see in Belfast, and that’s the sun. So when it decides to shine, we need to act quickly.

But what if it’s first thing in the morning and you fancy sitting outside to soak up the rays with a relaxing beverage?

We’ve come up with the answer…

Here’s five Belfast ‘pavement’ cafes you’ll enjoy chilling (outside) in – until the pub opens.

1. The Pocket

69 University Road – Website

Since visiting The Pocket a few weeks back, we’ve been seriously unsurprised at how busy this thriving cafe, with its delightful outside seating & panoramic views of Queen’s University, has proven to be when the sun’s shining.

With a concentration on customer service, authentic coffee and fresh food – The Pocket ticks all of our boxes for the perfect cafe. Throw in sunshine, outside seating and the opportunity to ‘people watch’ in the centre of Belfast’s busy Queen’s Quarter, and we’re sold. Literally.

Check out what happened when we went along to visit here. You can also follow The Pocket on Facebook for more info on specials, fun events and crazily mouth-watering foodie pics.

2. 5A

Lockview Road – Website

There’s a reason why 5A was so highly featured in our recent list of 10 Dog-Friendly Bars & Restaurants In Belfast – it’s probably one of the most popular outside seating areas in the city.

And with dogs welcome, this is the perfect spot for a trip out with the whole family. It is also ideal for any cyclists fresh from the famous Lagan Towpath who may need to rest any dreary legs.

3. Miel et Moi

703 Lisburn Road – Website

A pavement cafe with a difference – Miel et Moi, Northern Ireland’s first licensed Patisserie and Café Bar, has a gorgeous outside area that has proven to be the perfect spot for enjoying a tasty bite or delectable caffeine hit.

Inspired by classical French bars and patisseries, Miel et Moi’s drinks are lovingly developed by the devoted bar team, whilst the fresh authentic pastries are hand baked daily using locally sourced ingredients.

4. Thyme Deli

Church Lane – Website

Situated in the heart of the city centre, Thyme Deli offers fantastic views and a relaxing atmosphere with its outside pavement seating area (in addition to two floors inside if you’re too late for a table!)

Enjoy gourmet sandwiches, healthy salads, fries that truly hit the spot, hunger-busting burgers and great coffee!

 5. Cargoes

613 Lisburn Road

This small cafe and bistro on the vibrant Lisburn Road is the perfect place to enjoy good honest food made fresh to order using all local ingredients.

Plus – the Lisburn Road is perfect for people watching!
