Unless you’ve tried House of Zen for yourself, you may not be aware of its many special attributes that set it apart from so many of its competitors in Belfast.
Here’s some of the amazing things we’ve learnt about about House of Zen after our recent visit.
1. Passionate Duo
After you’ve sampled even just one mouthful of food, it’s obvious that the chef behind this menu is extremely talented.
But what we didn’t realise was Head chef Kit Chu’s huge influence over some of our favourite Fusion eateries throughout the city.
Kit Chu is the Business Partner of House of Zen alongside Managing Director & owner Eddie Fung.
Eddie is also the owner of Zen and Hakka noodles which is now called The Zen Duck House. He was also the founder of takeaway chain Gaze.
Meanwhile, as well as Business Partner of House of Zen, Kit is the Head Chef of all the restaurants and the man behind all of the menus.
The duo have worked together since 2002 when they worked in Red Panda, then shortly after they opened Zen and many more restaurants followed!
2. Two Course Lunch Deal
House of Zen offers incredible value for money – with one main course alongside any starter or soup for just £9.95.
Unlike other restaurants offering seemingly unbelievable deals, the food at House of Zen has definitely not suffered – it scores top marks both in quality and quantity!
We highly recommend the likes of the mouth-watering Garlic Smoked Shredded Chicken or the delicious Crispy Duck Salad for Starters.
You’ll struggle to choose your main from a menu filled with culinary delights ranging from Stir-Fried Beef with Black Pepper Sauce on Crispy Noodles; to Roasted Duckling with Plum Sauce; and Kumquat Chicken – to name just a few.
3. Cocktail Masterclass
Famed for its legendary cocktails, where could be better to go than the House of Zen for a Masterclass?
Ideal for Hen Parties, you have a choice of 3 exciting Masterclass Packages.
The Classic Masterclass involves a Bellini on arrival -as well as the chance to enjoy two classic cocktails (made by your newly trained self) for just £23.95.
Whilst the Premium Masterclass with platters is £28.95.
But if you want to go all out, the Platinum Masterclass includes a Specialty Prepared Two-Course-Meal for £45.95.
4. VIP Package Nights
VIP package nights mean you can enjoy a delicious pre-fixed dinner at House of Zen before making your way to El Divino or China White where you’ll receive the Hosted Entry to the Club Treatment.
Sounds great for birthday parties to us!
You’ll enjoy two courses and a Cocktail (Daiquiri Or Cosmopolitan), and it costs costs £40pp – available every Friday and Saturday night.
5. Wine Pairing Menu
The six course Signature Menu with wine pairing costs £59.95 and consists of five courses of delicious food accompanied by a glass of the most ideal wine for your chosen dish. Before finishing off the evening of dining with warming tea or coffee.
Several of the courses contain multiple options, from the Steam King Prawn & Mooli Roll to the fresh pan-Fried Tooth Fish.
Each course is accompanied by a wine specifically paired to heighten the food & drink experience, kicking off with a Dim Sum Platter and glass of Italian Processo, Spumante Veneto Riondo.
6. Ideal For Couples
With the romantic ambiance from the beautiful, opulent surroundings within the restaurant itself to the stunning setting of the cobbled streets of St Anne’s Square in the Cathedral Quarter, House of Zen is the ideal destination for date night.
With the option of enjoying an intimate night in one of the booths or soaking up the atmosphere in the main restaurant, you’ll get to sample and share each other’s dishes, alongside the moreish cocktails before heading off to the nearby cosy bars the Cathedral Quarter is so famed for.
7. Teapot Cocktails
There’s a whole menu of cocktails served in teapots – like this Oriental Garden.
It features Cointreau, Limoncello, Passoa, Midori, lychee liqueur, shaken over ice with fresh lime and cranberry juice and can fill four glasses. Three please!
If you’re planning a party then House of Zen’s booths, which are set in their own private area and comfortably seat eight people, are ideal.
In even better news, for anyone planning a party this efficient restaurant takes all of the stress and hassle away by planning it for you. They organise the table, write a specific menu, organise the drinks and even decorate the table and source the cake.
More info on the different party packages can be found here.
9. Something For Everyone
In addition to a fantastic Gluten Free Menu, which boasts amazing options for starters, mains and sides, House of Zen also boasts a great Vegetarian Menu.
We spoke to Head Chef Kit, who also assured us there’s something for everyone on the menu:
“We cater for all tastes, so if someone wants something cooked a certain way we do it, or we make slight variations to the dish or even create something new altogether.
“Some people may like a dish with less sauce, so we would cook the dish differently for them – it’s all made to order.
“Children might also like less sauce, so we would suggest dishes for them that we know they will enjoy, such as the Honey Chicken – with chips of course!”
And whilst sometimes we struggle to find a dessert that takes our fancy in Asian Fusion cuisine, House of Zen has tackled the sweet section head on, with a menu culminating in delicious options.
Desserts range from the Daily Special; to a moist Chocolate Sponge Pudding; Irish Cream Banoffee Pie; Chocolate & Hazelnut Torte; and a selection of our favourite Mauds Ice Cream.
11. Floral Tea
One of House of Zen’s specialities, we highly recommend you finish with the refreshing Floral Tea!
