Craving the greatest sandwich in Belfast but not knowing where to get it is a conundrum that every office worker in the city has suffered, usually on a daily basis around 1pm.

So just to make life easier, or maybe a bit more difficult, we’ve picked our top 16 sandwich selling shops in Belfast…

Known primarily as a location to source ingredients you can’t get anywhere else in the country, Sawer’s also boasts an award-winning deli counter that is a sight to behold. Their mouth-watering sandwiches are fast winning them a brand new clientele other than middle-aged women trying to find polenta.

2. West

This bustling sandwich shop is always packed to the gills. But don’t let that put you off. They run a well-oiled machine here, with an extremely quick turnaround on sandwiches, baguettes, ciabiattas and paninis for those sitting in or taking away. Our current fave is the Harissa chicken, goat’s cheese and chorizo panini. The salads and chips are also pretty amazing.

3. Ruby’s

Montgomery Street


The home of the two-handed sandwich, the double decker Ruby’s Club is simply unbelievable. The rest of the combos aren’t bad either. Plus you’re guaranteed a great chat as well as great sandwich in this quaint little shop.

4. Cuban Sandwich Factory

Church Lane / Queen’s Arcade


This hidden gem can be found in the back of Lecky’s Newsagents and also at weekends at St George’s Market. A must for those who like to think outside the box with their sandwiches. And now they’re about to open a new larger premises in Queen’s Arcade.

5. Ventnors

Queues out the door are a sign of a great sandwich shop, and proof that loyal customers are prepared to wait for one of the best bread-based lunchtime experiences in all of Belfast. And if you really don’t fancy queuing, Ventnors also deliver to offices.

6. Mikey’s Deli

This Philly Steak sandwich from Mikey’s Deli epitomises why you must try this American style diner. It’s a like a little taste of New York in the middle of Belfast. If you ask nicely they’ll sort you out with a yellow cab home.

This new eaterie in Church Lane is aimed at the breakfast and lunchtime trade. Freshness and variety are the key selling points at this delicatessen set in cosy, yet spacious premises decorated by some wonderful artwork by Off The Wall Creations.

We’d overlooked this first time round and lots of you let us know! This cafe and deli packs a mighty sandwich and is also famous for its homemade soups and stews.

You’ll find this award-winning deli on the Lisburn Road as well as at the Ulster Museum and The MAC. If you’re lucky enough you’ll also attend an event where they’re doing the outside catering. A family business who put a strong emphasis on locally produced food.

10. Doorsteps

Lisburn Road, Ann Street and Botanic Avenue


Fresh, succulent sandwiches made with freshly baked bread, which is also available to buy over the counter. Doorsteps leave you feeling like you’ve just eaten enough to last a week.

Choose from the tasty, freshly pre-made sandwiches at the counter on the way in if you don’t want to wait for your sandwich to be made up, or take your pick from the vast array of fresh, mouth-watering meats, veggies and salad to make up your sambo, wrap, roll or panini.

Specialising in gorgeous sandwiches and takeaway platters, this excellently located sandwich shop always delivers on taste and does a pretty good coffee too. Their gourmet hand cut sandwiches start from a competitive £2.75.

Another hidden gem, this sandwich shop located on Donegall Pass has been in business since 1996. They do everything from humble egg mayo sambos right up to special Big Meaty combo melts. Plus there’s loads of vegetarian options.

Amazing baguettes are one of specialities in Grapevine along with monster sausage rolls and hearty stews.

16. Poppo Goblin

Sandwiches, breakfasts and lots of healthy options. The soy chicken and peanut sauce sandwich in particular grabbed our attention.
